life is very fragile

24 Jun

I’ve not had much time over the last few weeks, life has changed for me & my family.
My dad has been diagnosed with an aggressive malignant brain tumour, it’s not treatable & we now only have a short time left with him.
It’s been an enormous blow, however from all life experiences you learn important lessons from them & for me has made me stronger.
While my dad was initially in hospital another patient told me that my dad was one of the happiest people he’d met & that dad was drunk on life. At the time we were intensely worried about the seriousness of his condition however he still told me not to worry.
Even now in his mentally altered state, with the dreadful prognosis we’re coming to terms with he still tells me not to worry.
He’s right, it’s very hard but one thing I learnt through my months of therapy was that there is little point worrying about the things you have no control over. You learn to live with them & gain control of the things you can change or influence.
We can’t change the diagnosis however we can ensure that we live the life dad has left as fully as we can with him. And in the future that we get ‘drunk on life’ and make every moment count.
Life is very fragile, so don’t wait for tomorrow, live today for all it’s worth.
